12 year old Palomino, Quarter Horse/Tennessee Walker gelding. At 15 hands tall he is our comic; if you leave something out he will find it and play with it. We have caught him going through the therapy toy cabinet one particular time he looked up and had beads in this mouth! He has a fun loving personality, eats junk food, and gets into trouble whenever he can. Comanche had little training when he first came to our program but with work he is now well trained and is very steady in and out of the arena.

Jamie’s Story - Happy’s bloodlines go back to foundation bred Quarter Horses like Oklahoma Star, Bert, King and Three Bars to name a few, these horses were well known for their trainability, athleticism and versatility. Happy lived up to his ancestors, in so many ways, some words to describe him are: a gentle giant, steady, fun loving, easy going, comical, a dear friend, therapy horse, ranch rodeo horse, team roping horse. There are not enough words to describe what a great horse he was! He was a black, non-paint/AQHA. His sire was Indian Bert Money and the dam was Sugar Free Sprite.

C.C. is a 27 year old chestnut Arabian mare. When she first arrived at our center, C.C. was very thin and forlorn with no self-esteem and was scared of everything. She has blossomed into a great therapy horse and really connects to the kids; she actually plays favorites! C.C. is very sweet and is our premadona. She doesn't like the heat or the flies and summer is not her favorite time. She has fit into the program really well and works with our smaller riders.

Hippotherapy is a physical, occupational, and speech-language therapy treatment strategy that utilizes equine movement as part of an integrated intervention program to achieve functional outcomes. As members of the AHA we actively support the effort to educate, inform and create awareness regarding this specialized type of therapy.

Therapy vs. Adaptive Riding: Clarity of Conversation.

You heard it at the 2013 AHA Conference in St. Louis Missouri, “Lead with the therapy, not the horse.” In many of the AHA, Inc. courses, the participants ask, “How do I document what I do?” Below is a checklist of terms that may be beneficial to use for more accurate treatment documentation.
